Description of Purpose

The LTAB Board Member is a one-year ex officio board member position, designed
to be filled by a current LTAB student who will represent student concerns to
the Nebraska Writers Collective’s board of directors. This person will be a
full-fledged member of the board of directors, and will have the chance to
actively and directly influence the action of the Nebraska Writers Collective.

This is a volunteer position, and runs from July 1 of the current year to June
30 of next year.

What You’ll Do

Attend board meetings, vote, and participate in decision-making

Represent the LTAB student body to make sure their interests are
well-represented

Learn about (and do!) organizational management, program development and
evaluation, fundraising, and financial management

Attend workshops and seminars

Work with a fantastic group of folks who are super-interested in making sure that
LTAB and other Nebraska Writers Collective programs are as high-quality as
they can possibly be

Requirements For Applying

If you are interested in applying, contact Andrew Ek at andrewek@gmail.com.

You’ll submit all of your materials to Andrew by May 30. From there, the
board of directors will select one or more candidates to fill this role.

Here’s the list of requirements and a description of how to apply:

You must have at least one year of experience participating in Louder Than
a Bomb: Omaha, and you must be enrolled in high school for the coming school
year.

Submit a letter of application (1-2 pages) in which you outline your
involvement with LTAB, your reasons for applying to be the LTAB board
member, what you hope to accomplish by joining the board, and why you think
you’ll be a successful board member. Please also indicate what year you are
in school.

Be able to commit to attending board meetings every six weeks (we meet about
nine times per year)

Find two references who can speak to your credibility. These shouldn’t be
family members. One person should probably be your LTAB coach or the teacher
who coordinates LTAB at your school. You don’t need to ask for letters of
recommendation, but you should attach a separate document with contact
information, as well as a quick explanation of how they know you.

Questions? Comments? Concerns? Contact Andrew Ek at andrewek@gmail.com

Our 2013 season of the Louder Than a Bomb: Omaha youth poetry festival is so big, so daring, and so far-reaching that we wanted to bring someone suitably epic into town to help us kick it off. We outdid ourselves, because we got Marc Smith.

Marc invented the poetry slam. This whole thing that LTAB does? He started it, and he’s still doing it, and he’s still blowing the doors off of it. He’s coming here to perform, and to run a workshop that is sure to bring even more people into the fold. You do not want to miss this, so clear your calendar on January 26th and make time for poetry.
